The difference in electronegativity between adjacent atoms participating in a covalent bond drives the formation of a polar molecule.  Water molecules are polar and their interaction with each other, via the partial positive and partial negative ends of the molecule, can create very interesting physical properties within a large body of water.  Surface tension is a result of this strong interaction between the poles of neighboring water molecules at the water-surface interface.  What if we could make different liquids have increased surface tension like water?  Which liquids would you choose to increase their surface tension and why?

Increasing Surface tension of liquids.The surface tension of liquids can be increased so that they can have like that one of water. The liquids whose surface tension can be increased include, benzene, acetic acid, acetone, ethanol, toluene, methanol, ethyl acetate, carbon tetrachloride and n-hexane.The surface tension of these liquids can be increased because of their chemical nature. Because of their nature, the temperature of these liquids can be increased so that the there is a decrease in cohesive forces. Increase in temperature makes the molecules to vibrate.
