Few would argue that groups influence us on a daily basis.We are pressured to conform and routinely evaluate our performance as compared to others. How do we measure up? Who do we "belong" with? What is the appropriate thing to do?Prior to completing this post, please read the chapters concerning groups and their influence upon us as individuals. Further, I'd like you to familiarize yourself with the concept of "Groupthink" as well as review three different research experiments that have taken place regarding conformity and group dynamics. These include studies by Solomon Asch, Stanley Milgrim and the Zimbardo "Stanford Prison Experiment". After the research, I acknowledged that truly social groups influence the manner in which people think and behave. Different reasons have been given to explain why individuals conform to particular social groups. A study by Hong, Levy & Chiu (2019) notes that some individuals conform into certain social groups for acceptance while others join groups for encouragement to achieve a common goal.
