Kristof, Where Sweatshops Are a Dream p.120 1 Post: Choose one of the readings and identify where the author used the modes of rhetoric (from the lecture notes) when writing it. Which mode(s) did you see being used and how effectively did the author use the mode(s)? Identify where specifically the mode(s) appear.  How did the author's use of the mode(s) help him/her communicate the main argument? Was the use of the mode(s) effective? What would have made the argument more effective or convincing? Once you comment upon the rhetorical mode(s), you may also comment upon the article's content and express your opinion about the author's argument.Your post should be well developed and thoughtful, approx. 5-10 sentences (more is better than less, but no need to write an essay). 1 Response: Choose one of your classmate's posts and respond by suggesting/adding a mode of rhetoric that you think would have worked well in the essay to further the argument. For example, would a specific comparison/contrast of working conditions in two countries have been a useful addition to the article? Once you add the mode and explain why it would be a useful addition, you may also feel free to comment upon the article's content and express your opinion about what you read or about your classmate's assessment of the argument.Your response should be well developed and thoughtful, approx. 4-8 sentences.Remember that doing the bare minimum rarely results in excellence, so please show that you have read and analyzed the arguments carefully and critically.HERE IS THE ONE THAT YOU HAVE TO ANSWER:In "Terror's Purse Strings" the author used cause and effect, classification, and description as modes of rhetoric. These modes were effectively used to argue that fake merchandise should not be purchased and illegal activity will go down. The author used cause and effect explaining the processes of bag making and selling. When the bags were produced women would buy and bring in much wanted earnings to the company. The production of the luxury bags would cause counterfeit producers to display their own knock off version of the name brand allowing both dealers to earn cash. The production also led to workshops being discovered and ultimately shut down saving many children who were made to work. Classification was used to show differences between groups that are associated with purchasing and who support the counterfeit companies. Description was used to describe the conditions of the workshops and naming specific locations of purchasing counterfeit goods as well as workshops. This was used to argue that counterfeit associations produce terrorist activity, child labor, and fake merchandise. I believe it could not have been more effective with using these modes. I believe the author was right however I would like for there to be more facts in regards to the associations and possible numbers of those affected.
