He describes the disbelief with some of the whites who came from very far with expensive means just to see the negro who could write poetry, fiction, and even paint artistic pictures. He also shows how the whites could not belief that the African Americans could do something wise, especially in terms of education. They were used to seeing them in segregation towards the south, to a point where there was news in all media platforms about a black man who was able to write.
