my social justice issue topic is racism, answer the questions below. One of the first things you'll need to do to create your public project is to determine a concept and choose a medium (plus a couple more things). This microtheme will help you sort out concept and medium (and more) as you prepare a public offering for Project 4. Use the following categories, ideas, and questions to think through your invention strategies: CONCEPT A clear concept is of utmost importance for Project 4 (as with any project). Our definition of "concept," adapted from BusinessDictionary.com, is "a briefly stated, clear idea around which the public project" will be developed. Your concept will build upon Project 3's claim, if you choose this option, or you may decide to pursue a new topic. Your P3 claim or your new claim may change in its final iteration due to invention strategies and project development based on audience, concept, intent, and medium. What is the project really about? What do you want to say about the subject? [Use in-class interviews as well to guide you]PURPOSE/SITUATION What is your purpose in going public with your social justice writing? What is the situation (conversation, ongoing project) to which youre contributing knowledge? Who is your self as a writer, in relationship to the above questions, and what media are you good at, or do you want to learn?MEDIUMOxford English Dictionary defines medium as "an agency or means of doing something." Medium, rhetorically speaking, is the vehicle through which a message is conveyed, e.g. board game, poster, film/video, comix, plays, among many others. (For this project, if you want to you use another form of social media besides Tumblr, then check with me.) The medium of a text drastically affects its impact. The rhetorician chooses his/her medium to reach the intended audience and to have the intended effect. How will your message about social justice get to your audience? How do you want to persuade your audience to agree with/understand you? (medium)[Use interviews as well to guide you]MESSAGE/INTENT The message or intent is the take-away point for your project. When someone is done experiencing your work, there ought to be something they can leave with, so to speak. In terms of social justice, this take-away will lend itself to at least one of the four elements of Barbara Love's "liberatory consciousness": awareness, analysis, action, and/or allyship/accountability. It could be as simple as Wow, I want to join that or do that, or I really ought to recycle, or So thats how that works, and now I can do it, too. Or maybe, you want to create a certain specific feeling, give the user a certain experience, or open up avenues for thought and discussion--as ways to raise awareness. Whatever the case may be, the intent is particularly important. Knowing the intended message will help you develop your project, and it will result in a more impactful final result. This also is related to concept.AUDIENCEThe audience is the specific public to which a text is directed. Rarely (never) does a rhetorician address "everyone" equally. The audience is the ultimate arbiter for a successful rhetorician because it will usually determine what choices the writer makes. All messages' impacts are determined collectively by the unified effect of audience awareness and medium choice (intended or not) of the writer.  For example, what medium works best for: 18 year old college students? 85 year old retirees? 35 year old women? 22 year old men looking to purchase a gun?Who is your audience (cannot be "everyone")? What is the audience interested in knowing? How would they like to receive this information?[Interview another group's members (2-3 interviews)].ASSIGNMENTMicrotheme 11 asks you to answer these questions in their entirety to help you formulate Project 4. Then, you'll use these answers and your interviews to formulate your proposal and your product for Project 4.
