What I learned is that there is a very big problem in therapy socially based on the story that people tell. These are stories that people tell in the hope that they may be helped, as that is how therapy works. However, the problem is the nature of the stories that people tell. People tell stories that fit their needs and perceptions. What this means is that a person, for instance, seeking counseling, will only give a story that represents that side that he or she is comfortable with. If, for instance, it is a couple that is fighting and both are seeing a counselor on different occasions, they are likely o give a single story (White & Epston, 1990).
