Investigate greeting card messages and/or titles of articles in magazines or websites addressed to people aged 40 and over (this can be done over the Internet). Analyze 8-12 greeting card messages and/or 5-10 titles of articles, making note of the content and attitude toward aging. Develop a list of characteristics of people in midlife or in a midlife crisis as promoted by the greeting cards or the media. What types of stereotypes of individuals in midlife do the greeting cards or media promote? Do you (if you are in this age-group), your parents, or other people you know actually show any of these characteristics? Are media portrayals fairly accurate or inaccurate? What characteristics (if any) are typical of individuals in midlife? Although some individuals embrace the aging process with ease and dignity, others are held in a mid-life crisis that is characterized with more confusion than promise (Gaur, 2020).
