Animal ScienceThe non-food use of animals that stood out for me is the use of domestic animals as a genetic resource in health research. In research, animal models are often used to study the impact of certain genetic mutations and how they affect human health. Clinical trials of drugs that modify the genetic make up human beings such as anticancer drugs are based on the use of animal models. Laboratory rats are some of the preferred animals for studying the impact of drugs on genetic make up and overall disease process (Durus et al. 2017). Other species that are used in genetics are sheep, cows, and pigs.
