Senghor's PoetryThe poem by Senghor, a statesman, and poet, comes at a time when Africa was going through periods of liberation. The most interesting thing about the poem, Black Woman, is how Senghor personifies Africa and likens it to a woman who is both a lover and a maternal figure in stanza 2 and 6. Senghor describes Africa in a manner that earns respect for the continent in how he convinces the reader to believe in the beauty of Africa in mind. The picture of Africa painted in the poem makes every reader admire the continent and long to pay a visit and personally experience the goodness illustrated in the poem.
