Sharisse is a 21 year old college student who sought treatment at the college therapy center to help her cope with the recent breakup of her boyfriend of eight months. In gathering information from Sharisse, she revealed that she is tired of the "relationship roller coaster" she is constantly riding. During their last argument, John, in a rage, had pushed Sharisse against a wall, but Sharisse minimized his violence, stating that "that was nothing compared to the other times". Sharisse shared about an argument they had had which escalated to where Sharisse had hung on to the hood of John's moving car in an attempt to prevent him from leaving her. Although they broke up five days ago, her evenings have been filled with dramatic and emotional phone calls to and from John. She admitted to cutting herself with a razor to try to elicit a response from him. Sharisse revealed a history of relationships which mirror her relationship with John, and which include bouts of prostitution. Sharisse shared that she often feels lost and empty and will frequently turn to alcohol, drugs, or sex to escape these feelings. She recognized that she will do most things for a "rush", but is oblivious to the self destruction involved. A review of her family history revealed a history of domestic violence between her parents, and when Sharisse was 5, her father left the family with no further contact.Although she came across as distant and hesitant at the onset of the session, the first session ended with Sharisse planting a kiss on the cheek of the therapist, exclaiming "You are the greatest person I know".1.
