Devon is a 19 year old college student referred tot he college counseling center by a concerned teacher. Devon had missed three consecutive weeks of class, resulting in a danger of failing the course. According to the instructor, when Devon did attend class, he would discreetly slip in the door just before class began, and would  take the last seat in the rear of the classroom, seeming to hide behind the other students. He made poor eye contact and seemed to have no friends in the class.Devon had submitted a writing assignment to his instructor describing his self hatred. He seemed to focus on his hair texture and the size and shape of his nose, both which were "normal" by anyone's standards. Devon wrote in the assignment that he felt like a "beast", an "ogre", and believed himself to be "repulsive to others".In the meeting with the therapist, Devon admitted that he had not been attending class due to the belief that other students were noticing his bizarre appearance. He admitted that he is depressed, and often thinks about suicide. Devon stated that he spends long periods of time alone in his room with the shades drawn. When Devon shared that he enjoys drawing, the therapist asked him to sketch a self portrait and to bring it to the next session. Devon arrived to the second therapy session wearing a coat with a large hood. He asked that he be able to to leave the coat and hood on during the session. He showed the therapist his sketched self portrait. Devon had drawn a male who had a bizarre appearance, with a disfigured and huge nose. Devon reports that he never attended therapy before. He stated that he suffers from seasonal allergies, but has no other medical concerns.1. Based on your understanding of abnormal psychology, propose a diagnosis for Devon.2.
