Mental Illness
Instructions
This one is going to be different. I will give you a case study and i want you to give me a diagnosis, treatment plan, and how you would help a friend with this problem. Study the DSM, do any research, etc. It can be in bullet points. There is really no length, but i need to see that you put some work into this. Case study. Johnny is a 13 year old boy. He is very large for his age. His story is that he was adopted at birth due to his parents being on drugs. He was born with drugs in his system. The parents who adopted him are a little older and have other children, who are all adults in their 20s. The parents do not get along and there has been a history of conflict and perhaps even abuse to the children by the father. Currently, the father has "checked out" on the marriage, helping with the child, financially, etc. He and the mother do not share a room together any longer and he does not eat with them or other activities. All of the child rearing is left to the mother. The child has been playing video games non-stop for several years. He stays up until 1-3 am every night and yells and screams at the games. He refuses to do any of the chores requested, gets up all hours at night to eat and leaves dishes and food out. He is very irritable with his mother, often losing his temper. He curses her, says sexually explicit things about her, and yells at her. He snaps at her about anything and everything. He accuses her of "leaving him" like his natural mother did. He argues about everything with her, like what radio station to listen to, his school work, etc. He made her take him out of school to be home-schooled and fights with her constantly about this. He doesn't do any of the things she asks him to do, and usually blames her for it. He gets on his siblings nerves so much they want nothing to do with him. He will say and do things to get his parents in trouble. He gives no one else these problems. He goes to church and is on sports teams and doesn't have these problems there either.OK, this is an actual child that i am seeing, with some things changed, but most of this is what was presented to me. Give me a diagnosis, and justify it with the DSM 5. Give me what therapy should do and how, and then what would you do to help if you were part of this support team.
