For this assignment students are required to select a relevant sampling technique, design a questionnaire, formulate hypothesis and choose an appropriate statistical test.Students will prepare a report of 1600 words (10%), presenting the design of their researchand analysis.Overall aim:The assignment allows students to develop questionnaire design skills and to critically evaluatethe usefulness of various sampling techniques and statistical hypothesis tests. 2Learning Outcomes and Transferable SkillsLO4 Design a systematic process to interpret data using statistical proceduresTS1: CommunicationTS4: Numeracy skillsResources Available:Statistics and Research Methods books (available through the library database), handouts andrevision activities from lectures.Tasks, Organization and Grading:Tasks: Learning Descriptor:1. INTRODUCTIONStudents should briefly outline their research topic. References to theacademic sources should be provided. Knowledge andUnderstanding Transferable Skills2. POPULATION AND SAMPLING PROCEDUREStudents should first describe population of their study and then theyshould identify and explain what sampling method(s) are being usedfor their research. Foreach question/statement students should explain:o why it has been chosen (why this variable is needed for theirresearch); how it is linked to their research topic.o other important details: type of question chosen (open, dichotomous, category, etc.), type of Likert scale selected, list of answers provided, etc. Knowledge andUnderstanding Cognitive skills Transferable Skills4. HYPOTHESIS TESTINGStudents should formulate a null and an alternate hypothesis to betested in their research. They should also explain what data areneeded to test their hypothesis (which questionnairequestion(s)/statements(s) should be used here?), and whichstatistical test (Chi-square or Spearman rank correlation) they woulduse to test their hypothesis. Any important details about thehypothesis testing procedure should also be provided here (e.g. whatlevel of significance would you choose?; how would you identify thecritical value for your test?; etc.) Knowledge andUnderstanding Cognitive skills Transferable Skills5.
