Normal cell proliferation, and identify factors leading to altered cell proliferation. Cell proliferation occurs in four distinct stages; the G1, S, G2, and the M phase. In the G1 phase, cells grow and accumulate the nutrients required throughout the proliferation process (Adan, Kiraz & Baran, 2016). In the S phase, the cells DNA duplicates and in the G2 phase the DNA is checked for any errors so that faulty DNA pieces are not transferred to the next phase. The M phase involves replication of cells to form new cells. Some of the factors that affect cell proliferation are radiation and chemicals, such as asbestos, azathioprine, and aflatoxins.
