research
Instructions
Purpose:It's very rear that you will ever get a UX job for a product you already understand and/or applies to you. Thus whenever starting a design project with a new client you will need to do some research to understand that product, what the clients (stakeholder) needs/wants are, what constitutes success (your goals), and what you're specific role in this project actually is. Task:Use the Designercizer link (Links to an external site.), to assign a website project to you. Click the "Hard" option on the left and hit "Reload Challange" until you find an option you are interested in pursuing this class. The only rule is that the "To Help" field should not apply to you in any way.Start doing initial research for the option generated, your focus, and what some of the other pages for the site might be. The concept will probably adjust a bit as we go, so start broad. Explore various competitors and sources for inspiration. Once you have a good grasp on the concept do your best to answer the Kickoff Meeting (Links to an external site.) questions. Feel free to ask around this week and get help/inspiration from others.Include all content (words, links, images, etc.) on one well laid out one multi-page PDF file or JPG file. Requirements: Start your paper off with the 3 points you chose from Designercizer (Design, For, To Help). Write a small paragraph about your project concept, how you might expand upon it, what you think/want its focus to be, what you might name it, and/or anything else you think is worthwhile noting down.Based on your concept start some basic research of competitors. Find 3 links to similar sites/apps and create a small checklist of at least 3 to 5 points on what they are doing well, what can be improved, and why. Also Include 2 links purely for aesthetic, interactive, and design inspiration as well and note what you like about them and why.Read the ENTIRE "Questions Designers Should be Asking" (Links to an external site.). Once done answer all of the questions under the "Kickoff Meeting" section in reference to your concept, feel free to answer questions from other sections as well or any other questions that you think might be appropriate. Not all answers will be applicable, but try to answer all and make sure to follow your answers up with why, whenever possible. Once done review this section with someone who you think could have some creative insight and note down their answers too. Do NOT tell them your answers.A User Experience Designer is a researcher, NOT a Visual Designer. So this week I do NOT want to see any kind of color usage, cute icons, textures, or fancy typeface. Focus instead of a clean and clear layout, with good hierarchy, spacing, reliability, and simplicity. Your stakeholders and team members should be able to skim your document and get all of your points quickly and clearly.
