They can be warnings, showing us what not to do, but most often they are meant to show us a glimpse of a life lived well. Examining biographies can give us a glimpse into the worldviews of people in the past and help us to better understand what they value most. In this assignment you will look at Medieval Saints Lives, Renaissance humanist biographies, and biographies of figures from the Scientific Revolution. These were meant to give their readers an example of a life to be emulated; they give us a picture of what people of the time viewed as the good life.What picture of a good and virtuous life do the medieval documents paint? What picture do the Renaissance documents paint? What picture do the Scientific Revolution documents paint? What do people value in each case? How do these biographies give us insight into Medieval, Renaissance, and Scientific Revolution worldviews? How do the worldviews and values of the periods differ?
