What are the causes of type 2 diabetesThe occurrence of type 2 diabetes is linked to the exposure to endocrine disruptor chemicals such as Bisphenol A (BPA) that impact negatively on glucose metabolism and also on the function of the pancreatic cells involved in insulin secretion. BPA induces an insulin-resistance state by impairing the secretion of insulin from the pancreatic cells (Soriano et al., 2012). Regulation of blood glucose is likely to be affected negatively as well since insulin is produced in low amounts. Furthermore, glucose metabolism is impaired since BPA also interfere with the release of adiponectin from the adipocytes increasing the chances of an individual succumbing to type 2 diabetes.2.
