China/ASEAN Reaction to Vietnam's Invasion of Cambodia IntroductionAt the height of Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in 1978, China opposed this move based on the fact that its relation with Vietnam was collapsing. Another important reason for failure to support the Vietnamese actions is that China sought to undermine Soviet Union influence in Asia and was concerned with the union between Vietnam and the Soviet Union.
