Taming of the Shrew Response Shakespeares The taming of the shrew basically focuses on the main theme of misogynistic society that defined gender roles in the 16th century. The play is a play within a play and employs the use of humor to achieve its motive. What I found interesting is the ability of Shakespeare to abide by the values of his time as far as patriarchy and female subjugation is concerned while being able to present this theme as an absurdist comedy. The main themes explored include the role of women in marriage.
