Role of Women in Mary Shellys FrankensteinIn almost every society, certain gender defined roles play an important role in understanding what is expected of men and women. In the nineteenth century, the English society was one that was highly patriarchal in nature with women serving roles that would have been considered submissive in todays society. Mary Shelly, in her 1818 novel, Frankenstein associates her female characters with limited roles which are mainly based on developing the male characters in the story.
