The Holy Virgin Mary ArtOne of the controversial pieces of art is the Holy Virgin Mary piece of art. The art is done by Chris Ofili in 1996. This illustration features a black Virgin Mary accompanied by female genitalia and posterior cut from porn mags. Each of her breasts were stuffed with elephant feces. The artwork highlights ethnic stereotypes as well as the overall white skin of biblical characters in Western depictions. Even so, not everybody has been eager to look critically through the symbolism of this image. The artwork was shown at the Brooklyn Museum in New York in 1999.
