The United States' prison rates are astonishingly large in contrast to comparable nations, and it is becoming clear that we are not prepared to house more than two million prisoners; as such, there is a need to reduce recidivism (Magee, 2021). It is estimated that 95 percent of people who are convicted would be allowed back into our neighborhoods (Magee, 2021). This paper will address how education and job opportunities could reduce recidivism better than longer jail terms.
