Still, all police officers are supposed to discriminate against black citizens, but that's not really valid. The music video starts with John Legend performing the chorus, and the scenes from the film Selma (a film about which the song was written) are seen between the shots of the singers. Common then starts to rap after the chorus, and more dramatic images of the film are seen, including marchers and assaults by the officers. The music video fans feel sympathy for the poor women in the movie Selma and for the marginalized citizens of today's society.
