When Breath Becomes Air When Breath Becomes Air is an autobiography written by a thriving doctor called Paul Kalanithi. Basically, the book talks about his life and sickness since he was suffering from metastatic lung cancer, sadly at its last stage. He records that during his last year of neurosurgical residency, he started experiencing sudden negative changes in his health which began as mere back pains that could at time become so painful. Things got wprse and he started losing weight rapidly, severe chest pains and back pains and this got to his wife who showed concern. Paul Kalanithi narrates that the disease was diagnosed when he was at the peak of his career of the notoriously demanding neurosurgery.
