Part 1Nina Simone was one of the top notch artists who performed jazz, blues and folk music. This she did in the 1950s and 1960s. Besides being a highly decorated artist, she was a civil rights activist who used her talent in the music industry to speak out. Some of her songs such as the Mississippi Goddam was sung at the wake of what was seen as white supremacist terror attacks against black people(Mena and Saucier). In that attack which happened in the year 1963, four young black girls had been killed. The song truly showed her feeling which was one that spoke of the injustice, calling out the that act.
