As a general rule, an OBV will record a higher or positive price when the price at the time it is being read is higher than the last time it was read. This can be clearly seen in the representation where all the sections of the OBV with a positive sign show the closing reading higher than the opening reading. The vice versa is seen where the OBV section has negatives. Such are the reasons why the OBV is used to determine a lot of the shifts in the market.
