Write an informal email (format on page 45) to employees announcing the overtime shifts.
Instructions
Its been a rough year, and employee morale is low. COVID-19 has left everyone feeling insecure about his/her position and unsure about the future. Most of your employees are hourly, and you have found funding for overtime shifts this weekend. Each person can take one four-hour shift. This will be paid at time and a half. Employees must understand the following restrictions:Each employee must have worked his/her 80 hours this pay period to be eligible for the four hours of overtime work/pay. The four hours of overtime does not count toward a persons 80 hours. Overtime shifts must be worked sometime between 6 a.m. and midnight on Saturday. (You pick the date.)Managers will coordinate the schedule to make sure that shifts are equally distributed throughout the day and that each employee has a chance to participate.Salaried employees are not eligible for overtime shifts.Put this scenario in the context of a company you know something about. (Pick a company.)Write an informal email (format on page 45) to employees announcing the overtime shifts. Remember: its good news. Use "building goodwill" principles from the Supplement pages 54 to 58. Use the good-news outline (GDP) from pages 60 to 62. You should have the good news in the first sentence, and you should end with a positive, forward-looking ending. Remember to emphasize what the employees can do vs. what they can't do. *The first draft should always be submitted in a Word document.Grading Criteria(What I'll be looking for when I give feedback and later grade the final draft)Content Wordiness, you attitude, positive emphasis, clarityOrganization Give the good news.
