The narrator of the story is unreliable. The information and details he provides are from his own point of view. They represent his perspectives and not necessarily the unbiased details of how everything happened. The story of Edgar also lacks sufficient linkage to that of the dead old mine. The narrator shows the negative side of Edgar dominantly in the story. He should just give details and let the readers do the judgment on the kind of person Edgar was.
