Annie Bannatyne was a brilliant lady. Mrs. Bannatyne, unknown to me before I was a grown-up, is an example that merits more appreciation from other groups in Winnipeg and Mtis. Her father was Andrew McDermott, the wealthy businessman, and Mtis Saulteaux' Sarah McNab. She grew and was born in Red River, Winnipeg's Trade District today. Annie married the famous owner of Andrew Bannatyne, as an adult. Ms. Bannatyne was well trained and well thought-out. As well as operating her shop and growing her daughters, she has guided several humanitarian campaigns and helped finance the Winnipeg General Hospital, the country's first hospital.
