OverfishingOverfishing refers to the act of catching an excessive number of fish in water bodies in a way that depletes the adult fish leaving few or no fish to breed and increase in stock. Overfishing may arise as a result of catching a particular species of fish until it's entirely gone. Overfishing may furtherbe described as fishing vigorously to reduce the stock levels to such an extent that they might no longer sustain the required number of fish necessary for harvest (Dooley, 2019).
