He focused on the C19th and described images of cowboys, US Calvry and the American Indians. He was the favorite of Western Army due to his fame. He was invited by the western army to make their portrait in the fighting field to make them famous as well. Therefore, he gains exclusive rights to access the soldiers as well as their story, hence this enhanced his status. He was the most successful illustrator.
