Much Ado About NothingAfter the wedding's disastrous circumstances, Beatrice and Benedick are left alone in this scene. Hero has been whisked away into the unknown. If they can't clear her name, she'll have to live in humiliation, perhaps in a convent. Benedick tries to console Beatrice, and the two express their love for the first time, with Benedick promising to do anything for her. Beatrice is enraged and upset over what happened to her cousin (Shakespeare, pg. 187). Beatrice's position as a woman in society prevents her from confronting Claudio about what he's done, so she asks Benedick to do it for her.It is a bright mid-morning. The mood is serene, and Beatrice has visited her uncle Leonato to check on her cousin, Hero. The weather is calm and cloudy, just perfect for an outdoor chat...
