Essay 4/Argument Analysis Overview:Pick a controversial topic, one about which people frequently have varying opinions. Once you have a topic, establish a thesis: what you are saying (your conclusion) and why what you are saying matters. In the body of the essay, analyze specific ideasboth your own and those you researched, in support of your position. Keep in mind that because there are rarely, if ever, just two sides to any topic, and that your thesis may not neatly square with all possible sides. Textbook readings for Essay 4 are on pp: 223 - 228, 247-252, 263-264, 267-277, 283-284, & 288-9.Excluded Topics:MAY THAT NOT BE USED: abortion, marijuana, cigarettes, (including vaping), death penalty, and recycled topics (topics/themes already written about in this class).Specific Essay 4 Requirements:Your thesis MUST make a specific claim or assertion and be in your Introduction section.Your analysis (body section) must be a balanced (fair) representation of major ideas that represent more than one side (perspective) of the topic.Public Resonance is required. Achieve it by extending the overall analysis to include a broader set of ideas or by narrowing the analysis of selected ideas to suggest an important emphasis.
