The problem of evil states (roughly) that the existence of evil gives us reason to think that a God that is all-loving, all-powerful, and all-knowing doesn't exist. In your assignment this week, explain one or two reasons that a God who possesses these traits might have for allowing evil to exist. Note: pages 203-212 of Mackie's article, though not assigned reading, may be a good place to start if you are looking for ideas. Remember to cite any ideas you get from his article or other sources. Your thesis should be the first sentence, and it should address the prompt. Then you should spend the rest of the assignment supporting your thesis, and examples are a great way to do this. Be sure to meet the minimum word requirement of 200 words and put your word count on the assignment.

Generally, people view evil from different perspectives. The presence of evil makes many people doubt the existence of God, who by description is said to be omnipotent, all-knowing, and all-loving. However, to God, there is the reason He allows evil. Most believers have a better understanding of why God allows evil to exist, but non-believers doubt the presence of God since, by description, He can avert evil or even preventing it from occurring. However, the people who believe in God have a problem with evil and quickly drift from Godliness because they think God is omnipotent, wholly good, and all-loving, yet He cannot do anything about the evils facing them (Mackie, 256).
