Andr Bazin's "The Ontology of the Photographic Image" makes an argument about the underlying motivations for the creation of realistic images of the world. At the same time, it points to film as having particular qualities that give it a special relationship with reality. Is Bazin's argument convincing to you? In what ways it it persuasive, or in what ways is it not? How do your own experiences with cinema correspond to Bazin's claims?What was your experience of Certified Copy ( Abbas Kiarostami 2010) like? How do you see the film relating  to Bazin's ideas?

Bazin presents interesting insights about plastic arts and how civilization has greatly impacted the field. Bazin presents a convincing argument about the need to create realistic images. It is correct that in ancient Egypt, their people mummified dead bodies to preserve them and make them feel as if they are still part of the community. However, the sculptures did not present the real qualities of the dead (Friday). As such, photography and cinema replaced plastic arts. Through films, people can create scripts and find actors that properly represent the traits of the departed. The autobiography cinemas stand the test of time and can be shared from one generation to the other. When people view the films, they can tell the values and attributes that the departed stood for unlike in mummies...
