The scholar practitioner approach can also use theories and conceptual framework but adds the real world practice component. In this module, we discuss theory and conceptual framework applicable to practical applications in business. Module 4: Bridging the Gap between Scholarly Research and Professional PracticeIn this module, the focus is on how the Scholar Practitioner model and approaches help you to bridge the gap between Academic research and Practice in business. Module 5: Survey of Scholars and Practitioners in BusinessAs described in previous readings, the Scholar Practitioner approach can be used in a wide range of fields, from social sciences to medical studies. Despite its increased popularity, scholars can become biased as they study problems in isolation, apart from their application and impact on real life businesses. They often learn to see things from their own perspectives. Likewise, practitioners may view the world through a biased lens based on their prior experiences. Therefore, the Scholar Practitioner approach allows one to maintain a more balanced and realistic perspective. Combining scholarship with the reality checks that are brought by practice provides a fair and comprehensive approach to addressing challenges and opportunities in common sectors or industries. Module 6: Scholar Practitioner Influence in Societal ChangeThe use of scholar-practitioner model applies to a variety of business practices and including generating solutions that lend to societal change. The societal change could be related to areas such as environmental objectives, ethical principles and other community related concerns and objectives.In this module, several applications of the Scholar Practitioner approach are provided in order to demonstrate the influence on societal change and afford an opportunity for you to apply the scholar practitioner approach to influence societal change in a selected area of interest. Module 7: Strategies to Build Relationships to Promote SolutionsHaving explored the scholar practitioner approach in a variety of settings, it is important to note that there are multiple means of research to address both challenges and opportunities in business settings and practices. While a solution to address challenges and opportunities seem optimal based on a scholarly perspective, there is value in incorporating practical approaches that may be resisted in some settings or not properly aligning with scholarly strategies. Nevertheless, by incorporating Scholar Practitioner perspectives, solutions developed may be best suited to enhance strategies within businesses and organizations, especially when challenges and opportunities have already been identified. Module 8: Proposing the Strategic PlanIn the previous module, we explored how to develop relationships when considering the scholar practitioner approach regarding your business area of interest. Whether research is scholarly, practitioner or both, the best research project must be based on a thorough literature review (background material) of already published peer-reviewed, trade publications, other credible literature coupled with subject matter expertise in the topic of interest. As you progress throughout the DBA program, you will be introduced to the fundamental components of research including the literature review, applicable research methods (quantitative, qualitative or both) and other practitioner components to contribute to your final research project in your selected area of interest. In the final module of the course, the focus is on briefly exploring literature (provided in background material and external research) to propose a plan on how you will incorporate the strategies mentioned in module 7 for your area of interest.
