Tuckmans theory was developed in 1965 by Bruce Tuckman, an American psychologist, to explain the stages that groups go through during development. He suggested that teams experience four stages of development. He later added a fifth stage, which he called adjournment (Tuckman & Jensen, 2010). The author states that all groups experience a relatively unproductive first stage before becoming self-sustaining. The first stage is called form. Forming happens when the group is created, and the team members meet for the first time (Tuckman & Jensen, 2010).
