"Babylon Revisited."
Instructions
Directions: Review the Week 4 Lecture on Theme and Thesis, and the section in this week's lecture on the Transition from Reading to Writing. Think about "Babylon Revisited." Then review the list below and write an effective introductory paragraph with your own thesis for "Babylon Revisited (Links to an external site.)" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. For this assignment, it is not required to write a full essay. The list below is a guide; composing it may be the easier part of this assignment. The harder part may be arriving at your own thesis. Remember that the thesis should arise from the story, and it should be debatable, not a statement of fact. Once you have the thesis, each sentence in the paragraph should lead the reader to that thesis. The paragraph should use transitions from sentence to sentence, and it should read like a paragraph, not like a list--the list below is a guide. The paragraph should be proofed for errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Length: about 200 wordsPlease type your name on the paper. Please double-space.Please upload a Word document. Submit the assignment using the link below. Email or other attachments are not accepted. The paragraph should include the following: (This list is adapted from The Wiley Guide to Writing Essays about Literature by Paul Headrick. eBook 2014.)At least one sentence that states the author, title of the work (=the story title), and a general plot summary of the work;At least one sentence that states a major theme (abstract topic) that the work addresses; At least one sentence that states how the work addresses that theme; At least one sentence that states what general evidence(for example: characterization; setting; description, etc.) will offer a good way of examining that theme; At least one sentence that states how or why the selected evidence is a good way to examine the selected theme; At least one sentence stating your thesis. A thesis usually answers a question like: How is the selected evidence important in relation to the theme?A concluding sentence that leads the reader into the essays first body paragraph. (Sometimes this can be an example from the story that illustrates your first topic of discussion.)http://gutenberg.net.au/fsf/BABYLON-REVISITED.html- Reading click on link.
