African American WomenMain ArgumentThe American Midwest was home to racists who were opponents to the antislavery movement, black migration and black rights. Despite an emancipation proclamation issued by a Midwestern president to put an end to slavery, African Americans faced discriminatory laws that made their settlement in the region difficult. In Ohio, there was no indentured servitude or slavery. By 1850, Ohio had a strong antislavery community (Taylor, 2016). Some whites and Antislavery lawyers pushed for increasing black rights and the protection of fugitive slaves. Blacks suffered discrimination as racism was still common. In the end, an African American is elected to public office but the blacks were still prohibited from voting. Ohio was a beacon for slaves who wanted to own them...
