We have also spent time analyzing popular mythological fiction in Module 2, but here in the Epic of Gilgamesh, we find our hero actually existed in the historical records. Does this impact you as the reader? How do we categorize such a myth?Ancient historic records show that Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, actually existed in the empire of Sumeria sometime between 2800 and 2500 B.C.E. DiscussionAccording to history, it is a fact that Gilgamesh existed as the King of Uruk in the Sumerian Empire. The king existed between 2800 and 2500 B.C.E The Sumerian Empire was captured and went under the control of the Akkadians in around 2300 B.C.E. Even though the empire was captured, Gilgamesh was still the most famous hero of the time. Some of the people actually can refer to him as a god. The belief of Mesopotamia people said that all gods were immortal. Gilgamesh is seventy-five per cent a god and a quarter human.
