LawCharles Taylor was detained in 2006 and formally indicted by The Hague following international pressure calling for his resignation and subsequent arrest. He had served as the president of Liberia from 1997 until he resigned in 2003 (Jalloh, 2015). Taylor was accused of 17 counts of crimes against humanity. He is said to have facilitated and supported war crimes in Sierra Leone characterized by rape, murder, sexual violence, slavery, child labor and physical violence against civilians. His motive was to destabilize the country so that he could access natural resources.
