Claudius is driven by the thirst for power which sees him murder his brother, King Hamlet. Further, Gertrude, King Hamlets wife agrees to marry Claudius, in spite of him killing her husband. She fails to concentrate on virtues. She does not hold any remorse for the death of her husband. Rather, she is more interested in a way in which she could remain close to the throne. It is also the same selfish interests which makes Claudius seek to kill Hamlet when he comes back to Denmark after learning about the death of his father.
