Instructions
For this assignment, you will write a business plan or proposal on a topic of your choice. Topic is: Unhappy work environment/culture causing non productive employees. Solution: Team outings to boost camaraderie and bring the team closer together (this will lead to a happier and more productive working environment with employees) Write a business plan seeking support for a new or established business or organizational venture. You can seek funding from investors for an entirely new business or to expand a fledgling business, or you can seek funding within an existing organization (either private or public) for a major new initiative within the organization.Note: a business plan is aimed at investors. Another option is to write a business proposal. Internal proposals are for an audience within an organization, and can come at your own initiative or be requested by superiors. For example, new equipment may be needed, a new staff training program implemented, a new research initiative undertaken. (Or, as youll see in the sample proposal, implementing a new wellness program within a company.) External proposals are often sales proposals, or bids, which offer specific, tailored services, goods, or programs for potential customers at defined costs. (Solicited proposals are often signaled by a request for proposals (RFP), a formal invitation from an organization to bid on a contract to provide complex services, systems, or products to them. Unsolicited proposals may be aimed within an organization or outside, and may be the fruit of your own or your groups initiative to improve a workplace or to gain new clients or sell new products or programs.)Note: If you are writing an internal proposal, your audience will be your manager or someone else within your organization. If you are writing an external proposal, your audience will be a potential client. Grant applications, requesting funding from governmental agencies or other sponsors, are also proposals aimed externally. Whether you choose a plan or proposal, I encourage you to pick a topic that is relevant to yousomething related to your current company or to your industry. Make sure that what you are proposing is significant enough to sustain a document of the required length. Both a plan and proposal require an Executive Summary and key project details (the who, what, when, where, how of the project). Both are identifying a problem and offering a solution. There is no required format, although you may find it helpful to adopt the theory proposed by William Stahlman in How to Write a Great Business Plan. You will also find the Detailed Business Plan Guide helpful, as well as the models and templates youll find in the Business Plan/Proposal section of the Files section on our course Canvas page. Note: You should apply everything you learned in Can Do Writing to this assignment. This means you should start with analyzing purpose and audience, write a 5-part purpose statement, and compose the draft according to all the techniques we went over in class. Then, perhaps most importantly, apply the multi-pass editing strategy.
