. PleaKimberlites are relatively small igneous bodies formed from deeply derived (> 150 km) magma sources. These rare igneous bodies are fascinating because they contain inclusions of rock and mineral representative of the lower crust or mantle and host the majority of diamonds (although, only 3% of kimberlites are significantly diamond-rich). Where diamonds are present in the kimberlite, the diamonds are inclusions, foreign material swept up in the magma's relatively fast ascent to the surface.
