For this paper, you are serving in your role as a top advisor in the mayors office  of a town or city of your choosing in the United States or abroad. The mayor is very concerned about the problem of crime and has asked you to prepare a report on crime or guns and their impact on the city or town. (You can choose whatever type of crime or gun control position you would like: violent, financial, white collar, victimless, etc.)You have been selected because of your expertise in viewing the world and its issues through multiple sociological perspectives. Your portion of the mayoral task force report will be to explain one or two aspects of the crime problem in your city through these sociological perspectives. You have been asked to develop your report regarding one of the topics that the mayor is familiar with (choose from any of the topics covered in chapters 2-8 in the class): Culture, Age, Crime, Drugs, Gender, Race, Ethnicity Utilize the knowledge you have gained from your study of sociology to help the mayor understand this particular type of crime through one of these topics from the text. You will need to address the topic from at least two of the three sociological perspectives (Structural/Functional, Social Conflict or Symbolic Interaction).Papers will be graded as to how well they address the issue and how properly it is examined through two of the three paradigms. You also will be evaluated on how well you support your statements with concepts and theories from the course. Feel free to be creative in your approach to the paper as well.Papers should be approximately 4 pages in length and are due by 3:30pm on Thursday October 17th. Late submissions will be deducted one letter grade for each day they are late. You can submit them to me electronically or via a hard copy.
