Introduction Section (no more than of a page in length, in a single paragraph) Your introduction section should be brief, partly because you only have 4-5 pages and partly because of the nature of this paper. The focus of your introduction should be on providing information about what you will do in the paper. Remember that a paper cannot do anything (do not anthropomorphize), so write something like: In this paper, I will ... rather than This paper will .... No references are required in this introduction. The introduction should.Part 1 (no more than 3 pages in length)Start With a Main Heading Related to What You Will Do in This Section Provide a brief (1 or 2 sentences) introduction to what you will do in this section. In this individual written assignment (not a group assignment), you will match the seven broad nursing ethical values from the CNO (2018c) standard for ethics with the ethical principles from chapter 3 of the course text (Burkhardt, Nathaniel, & Walton, 2018). For each of the seven CNO ethical values, you will explain in what way(s) the ethical value is similar to/congruent with at least one of the ethical principles. Note that almost all of the CNO ethical values should be matched with a single ethical principle - do not try to stretch connections. There should generally be a very clear connection between the CNO ethical value and a corresponding ethical principle. Client well-being is likely to match to 2 ethical principles that are usually seen as being related. Please note the discussion in the textbook about respect for persons and consider which ethical value it may fit from the CNO. Use the next level of heading for separate subsections for each of the CNO ethical values/Ethical principle(s), e.g.:Name of Ethical Value Name of Ethical Principle Do not give examples - you are simply to demonstrate your understanding of what each CNO ethical value and each ethical principles mean, as well as how the appropriate ones fit together. Be sure to reference the CNO document and the textbook appropriately, including providing author(s), year, and specific page #s for every ethical value and ethical principle. How you explain the similarity between the CNO value and an ethical principle will be by putting them into your own words to show that they basically mean the same thing - so its about understanding the meaning of the ethical values and ethical principles; simply memorizing a list will not be helpful. You do not need to say a lot about each of the sub-points. You need to convince me that you understand why the nursing ethical value and the ethical principle are similar/congruent. So if you understand the meaning of each then you can do that convincing in ~3 sentences. For example: The nursing ethical value of xxxx (CNO, 2018, p. x) is about aaaa ..... Though the ethical principle of yyyy (Burkhardt et al., 2018, p. #) is named differently, the underlying meaning is still about aaaa. Therefore, xxxx and yyyy are similar because they .... (NOTE: you would not reference the documents in your concluding statement. You could use a similar format for every nursing value/ethical principle, but I recommend you try to use a variety of ways of writing as it will show your stronger writing skills. Note that you would italicize the first time you use the terms for nursing ethical values and ethical principles in the body of your paper as they would be considered key terms. For example, if you are writing about the CNO nursing value of client well-being, then the first time you would write client well-being. The term would be in lowercase, unless of course you started a sentence with it as then client would need to be capitalized: Client well-being. You then dont use italics in any further use, i.e., the second and subsequent times you use the term then it would simply be client well-being. If, however, the first time you use the term is in a heading or subheading then you follow the rules of the heading/subheading. The first time that counts is in the body of the paper, i.e., where youre writing what you have to say. Similarly for an ethical principle. For example, you would write beneficence the first time and then simply beneficence.Part 2 (no more than 1 pages in total length)Start With a Main Heading Related to What You Will Do in This Section Choose one of the CNO ethical values (be sure to explicitly name it and provide an appropriate reference). In no more than a page, describe a clinical situation in which you or another nurse upheld that value. This paragraph should be simply description and not analysis. Use the next level of heading for a separate subsubsection: name the subheading so you clearly let the reader know what you will be doing in this subsection. In no more than of a page, Provide evidence (use behavioural directive[s]) to explicitly show how the value was upheld. This subsection requires analysis. Be sure to explicitly name the behavioural directive(s) and provide an appropriate reference(s). It is important that you clearly link the behavioural directive(s) to what you wrote in the clinical situation, e.g., you might have written about giving a bed-bath and ways in which you ensured the patients privacy - so in the analysis subsection you would use that aspect of the scenario and link it to a specific behavioural directive.Part 3 (no more than 1 pages in total length)Start With a Main Heading Related to What You Will Do in This Section Choose a different one of the CNO ethical values (be sure to explicitly name it and provide an appropriate reference). In no more than a page, describe a clinical situation in which you or another nurse did not uphold that value. This paragraph should be simply description and not analysis. Use the next level of heading for a separate subsubsection: name the subheading so you clearly let the reader know what you will be doing in this subsection. In no more than of a page, Provide evidence (use behavioural directive[s]) to explicitly show how the value was not upheld. This subsection requires analysis. Be sure to explicitly name the behavioural directive(s) and provide an appropriate reference(s). It is important that you clearly link the behavioural directive(s) to what you wrote in the clinical situation, e.g., you might have written about giving a bed-bath and ways in which you did not ensure the patients privacy - so in the analysis subsection you would use that aspect of the scenario and link it to a specific behavioural directive. Conclusion (no more than of a page in length, in a single paragraph)Start With a Main Heading End your paper with a conclusion section. Do not start the section with words such as In summary or In conclusion - redundant because section is called Conclusion (heading). A conclusion section is more than just a summary - its a way of pulling together the main ideas that you have presented in the paper and making overall comments. Do not introduce any new ideas or new references.Other Required Information Critical analysis and depth in analysis are essential, so be careful to discuss each area in sufficient depth and breadth - the suggested length for each part should be your guide to how much depth and breadth is needed. Note that how you write is as important as what you write. Your paper should be a minimum of 4 pages and a maximum of 6 typed pages double-spaced (excluding cover sheet and references). Print your paper single-sided, so the back of each sheet of paper is blank. Your paper must follow APA format, including a cover page and relevant/accurate use of headings and subheadings. Headings and subheadings are required in this paper - so Im not simply suggesting that you use them. Coherence, flow, and clarity of paper as per APA are important, as are grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You need to ensure accurate citation of references according to APA; you need to follow other APA format, e.g., running head, 2 spaces between sentences, etc. Please become familiar with the APA materials that I have posted on Moodle and use them to ensure you follow correct APA style. Please use the example cover page and first page as a template for how to format your assignment. The references within this course are in APA format and I recommend you use them as your template for references. I prefer that you single-space your references, similar to the format in this course outline, as it saves space and pages. Please ensure correct use of the 2 references in total for this paper. As noted in the course outline on p. 10, grades will be reflective of the grading criteria in the course outline, which are expanded from the York University criteria (see pp. 14-19 for further details about grading). Please use all of the information in the First Paper and the APA folders in conjunction with this specific document to optimize your ability to do well in this paper. I will complete the APA feedback template papers 2513 SU-19 document by circling the specific numbers to indicate errors in your paper. This feedback will be attached to your graded paper that I will return in class, most likely in week 7. I will reset any incorrect fonts, margins, spacing, etc. on the electronic document and note the point at which the maximum 6-page, double-spaced limit is reached. I will then only read and grade a paper until that limit. Note that the use of a smaller font or smaller margins are actually actions of academic dishonesty. I will also provide feedback to you on the Template for Feedback re First Paper Ethics SU-19 that is in the Moodle folder. If you use this template as your guide to ensure you complete all aspects of the paper, including sufficient and acceptable references in each section of the paper, then you should be on track for doing well in the paper. Note that you must submit the hard copy in class on the date it is due. You must then also submit the exact same document (no changes at all) in an e-version on Moodle by 11.59pm on the due date (not via Turnitin, just on our Moodle site). Please see pp. 10-11 of the course outline for deadlines and late penalties. The maximum suggested length of each section is to make you aware that you need to be careful in how you allot your space. You need to ensure you have sufficient depth/breadth in each area, but you also dont have a lot of space overall. Do not go beyond the maximum length for any section or you are likely to have not provided sufficient work in another area. It will take you space to write a well-considered document with sufficient evidence for your claims. Therefore, I expect papers to be at least 4 pages in length - a student who submits a paper that is 2 or 3 pages long is unlikely to demonstrate the type of critical analysis that will earn him/her at least a good grade. You are definitely meant to use I when following APA if it makes sense in the context of your writing. For this paper, you should be using the first-person type narrative.References just 2! Chapter 3 and CNO ethics document Be very careful to pay attention to the resources you are to use in each of the main parts of the paper. You must use the individual chapter from the course textbook and not just reference the whole textbook. Referencing the whole textbook will contribute to a lower earned grade. In the APA Feedback template papers document I have provided an example of how to reference a chapter correctly in a reference list and I used our course textbook to make it easy for you to follow as a template. You will not use direct quotes anywhere in this paper. But a specific page number is still required in the body of your paper for all references; if using a range then limit to 2pp. Do not separate page number from author/year; never give only a page number alone. So when you write a sentence, you should keep the page number with the appropriate author and year. For example:Correct: The nursing ethical values outlined by CNO (2018, p. x) are useful .....Incorrect: The nursing ethical values outlined by CNO (2018) are useful .... (p. x). The only time you may separate the page number is when you are putting it at the end of a direct quote - and Ive told you that you cannot use direct quotes in this paper. The page number can still be kept with the author/year in a direct quote and I highly recommend that you consider using this method as you will then be reinforcing for yourself about not leaving an orphan page number, i.e., not leaving it on its own with no author/year. Note that using direct quotes in any paper is typically reflective of less than good writing. Direct quotes should not be used by students - you should put something into your own words instead to show that you actually understand what you are writing about. Some students seem to think that lots of direct quotes is a strength, but instead it is a weakness. You need to learn how to synthesize and you cannot do so with direct quotes.
