Epstein-Barr VirusEpstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a component of the herpesvirus family. The virus causes mononucleosis. It is commonly known as the kissing disease because it is one of the methods it can be spread from one person to another. EBV is very common and many people do not realize they have it. EBV is enveloped and icosahedral capsid in shape. The EBV genome becomes linear as it emerges from the latency period. During the process of destruction of infected cells, viral DNA polymerase copies the viral genome. During lysogenic, the host cell DNA polymerase duplicates the genome of the virus.
