It should tell me something about what you're writing on (eg: the case, the fact that you're looking at it normatively, etc.) 2) Give an introductory paragraph that introduces your general topic, the moral agent whose actions you'll be analyzing and the general ethical issues that arise.3) Provide a section that details the facts of the case (the who, how, what, when, where, and why). Also, be sure to go into details as to why it's an issue worth writing on. For example, you might want to say that the action caused a public outrage, so it's worth looking at why it might be wrong. Or, it might be controversial as to whether or not it's actually wrong. It might be that the case includes a conflict of values (like personal liberty versus the public good). Explain why it's interesting. 4) Explain how the Deontologist uses the Categorical Imperative (both the Formula of the Universal and the Formula of the End-in-Itself) as its test for permissibility; 5) Explain how the Utilitarian uses the Greatest Happiness Principle (you need to two options, and you must try to quantify them and compare them, and tell us which solution is indicated by utilitarianism), BEING SURE TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN ACT AND RULE UTILITARIANISM. 6) Explain how the Virtue Ethicist would describe doing the right thing for the right reason, theorizing about the virtuous and nonvirtuous agent about both what they would do, and how they might go about justifying those actions.7) Write a short conclusion. 8) Give a bibliography with at least two sources in a standard citation style (MLA, APA, or Chicago)TIP: An excellent paper in general will have lots of definitions of key concepts in plain language, often illuminated by simple but clear examples. A decent paper for this course must explain (at least) the following concepts: Deontology, Utilitarianism, Virtue Ethics, means, ends, reason, rational, mere means, End-in-Itself, Categorical Imperative, permissibility, right and wrong, good and bad, pain and pleasure, happiness, Greatest Happiness Principle, harm principle, motivation, virtuous agent, nonvirtuous (vicious) agent, the virtues.
